Frameless vs framed shower doors

The difference between frameless and framed shower doors is mostly about how much metal you see, and how open the shower feels. Both are common, and neither is right for every bathroom.

Frameless doors

Frameless doors use thicker glass with minimal hardware, so the shower feels more open and the tilework stays visible. They tend to suit bathrooms where the tile or stone is part of the look. The trade-off is that they generally need precise measurements and a well-squared opening, since there is less framing to hide unevenness.

Framed doors

Framed doors have metal framing around the glass panels. The framing can help with openings that are not perfectly square, and it usually gives a more defined, traditional look. They also tend to have more visible seals and tracks, which is worth knowing if easy cleaning is a priority.

Sliding, swinging, or fixed

Separate from framing is how the door moves. Sliding doors work well where floor space in front of the shower is tight. Swinging doors need clearance to open outward. Fixed panels suit walk-in showers with an open entry. The layout of your bathroom usually narrows this down quickly.

What helps an estimate

The details that shape an estimate are the same either way: the type of door you are leaning toward, the rough size of the opening, the kind of shower you have, and where you are. Sharing those when you ask for an estimate is a good starting point, even if you have not decided on a style yet.
